NMIndexStoreSvr.exe has encountered a problem
January 24th, 2009

If you are encountering this problem in which an error message, ” NMIndexStoreSvr.exe has encountered a problem” pops up, you might want to try to resolve the issue by following these steps. This is a problem caused by Nero Scout, a program that gets installed when you install Nero Burning Rom. So if you don’t have Nero on your system, just forget about reading this post.

1. Go to your folder’s option. You can get to the folder’s option by opening any folder on your hard drive, such as “My Computer” or “My Documents.” Then select “Folder Options…” from the Tools menu as shown below.

2. When the Folder Options window opens, click the View tab. This will show the file and folder view settings.

3. One of the options under Advanced settings is “Hide extensions for known file types.” If this option is checked, uncheck the checkbox and click Apply or OK. This setting is system wide, so unchecking this box will make file extensions appear in all folders.

3. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib

4. Rename NMIndexStoreSvr.exe to NMIndexStoreSvr.bak (It will tell you that you do not want to rename the extention, but just ignore that message)

5. That’s it!! Just remember to hide your extensions again through the folder option if you do not want to accidentally change extentions on any of your files.
